Social Media

53.5 billion minutes. That is how many minutes per year Americans spend on Facebook. Followed by 723.8 million minutes on Blogger, 623.5 million minutes on Tumblr, 656.2 million minutes on Twitter, and 325.7 million minutes on LinkedIn. Admittedly, I spend my fair share of time on social media sites, probably more than I would care to admit. Frequently though, I stop think to myself, "why am I on here? What purpose to my life am I serving?" More importantly though, "why do I feel the need to share the  most minute and boring details of my life with people, who in all actuality, are adequateness."

People probably don't really care that I did my laundry, or that I'm going home to see my family for the weekend. In fact, all I am doing is offering not so desirable people to know my schedule. While I have never experienced it, cyber bullying is on the rise, and this is partially due to the fact that so much personal information is put up online and words can be twisted against others. I guess to end this rant, I would like to say that you should be ever conscious of your online security by password protecting everything and only allowing friends access to your walls.
I used this site (click here) for the statistics I used.
